PIPE ORGAN NEWS
PIPE ORGAN PROJECT UPDATE, Sunday,
October 28, 2007
Work has progressed over the summer on the main organ chests which operates
all of the pipes of the instrument. This has required many hundreds of hours
of releathering and rebuilding. Many thanks to the numerous men and women
who have volunteered their time to learn this labor intensive task.
In September, two of the completed chests were lifted over the choir railing
and placed in the loft. In addition, planning for construction of the swell
chamber was done. After completion of the remaining chests, the choir risers
will be reconfigured to allow room for the remaining pipes.
Many thanks to all who have helped in fund raising efforts, most recently
from the sale of wedding gowns and from candles. Voluntary donations are
also continuing to come in and as always thanks to our volunteer work force.
There is still much work to be done. Many unit and offset chests must be
releathered as well as all of the regulaters (bellows) which stabilize the
wind for the chests. The console which controls all of the pipes must be
rebuilt with new components and the new digital switching system must be
purchased and wired into the organ.
Your continued donations and support is greatly
appreciated. OLS Music Ministry
Our church will be filled with beautiful music as a result of this
acquisition. The choir is accepting donations earmarked for the restoration
fund. More news will follow regarding fundraisers. Please try to be
generous!!!
